(Or, What Four Years of Field Notes, a Provisional Patent, a Science Fiction Series, and One Very Patient Dog Finally Produced)

Four years ago I knew what this book needed to be.
I could not write it yet.
Not because the research wasn't there.
Not because the protocol wasn't ready.
But because I hadn't yet understood the order of operations — the specific sequence in which a body stops compensating and starts recovering. I had the pieces. I didn't have the architecture.
So I wrote other things first. I mapped fascia. I traced spiral geometry through connective tissue. I presented Clockwise Hair Growth Theory at the International Fascia Research Congress in New Orleans. I filed a provisional patent on quantum fractal memory architecture. I wrote a science fiction series about uploaded consciousness and institutional AI because apparently that's what happens when a somatic researcher spends too many nights alone with his research and a dog who doesn't ask questions.
And somewhere in all of that — in the 30,000 hours of somatic observation, in the fiction that kept demanding to be written, in the protocol library that kept expanding outward from a single central question — the architecture finally became visible.
Return to Balance could not be written until I understood what it was the foundation of.
Now I do.
The Book That Should Have Come First
Here is the strange truth about the Unwindology Protocol Library: I wrote it in the wrong order.
Bonded Systems Under Load maps what happens when relationships are placed under load they weren't designed to survive. The Dissolution Protocol maps the habit systems that hold us in patterns we already understand and cannot stop. The Breaking Point maps addiction as a load management problem rather than a moral failure.
All three of those books assume something. They assume the biological foundation is functional. They assume the body is running on the right fuel system, sleeping deeply enough to consolidate what it learns, moving in ways that maintain rather than deplete, operating in a signal environment that supports rather than scrambles the nervous system.
Lots of people reading those books are not starting from that foundation.
Return to Balance is the book that should have come first. It is the foundation the rest of the library was always standing on.

Return to Balance: You Are Not Broken. You Are Bent.
The central claim of Return to Balance is not complicated.
You are not broken. You are not weak. You are not failing because you lack discipline or information or the right supplement stack. You are a biological system running in a high-interference environment, and you have been adapting to that interference so efficiently and for so long that the adaptations have started to feel like you.
They are not you.
They are load patterns. Compensation strategies. The body's intelligent response to a signal environment that was never designed with your biology in mind.
The book organizes that interference into five domains — nutritional, environmental, movement, recovery, and internal load — and proposes a five-week sequence for reducing interference in each. Not eliminating it. Not optimizing it. Reducing it enough that the body's own regulatory capacity can reassert itself.
The framework is called signal fidelity. The idea is simple: your body is still broadcasting. The noise is just louder than the signal right now.
Strip away enough interference and the signal returns on its own.
That is the whole protocol. Everything else is implementation.
Why This Took Four Years

The research has been accumulating since 2015. Field notes from thousands of hours of somatic observation. Literature reviews across nutrition science, circadian biology, fascia research, inflammation, cognitive load, and nervous system regulation. A provisional patent on memory architecture that emerged from trying to understand how the body stores and retrieves load patterns at the cellular level.
The fiction came out of the same research. The Constant Saga — the somatic cyberpunk series I've been publishing since March — is not a detour from this work. It is a pressure test. When you build a substrate mapped to the 33 vertebrae of the human spine and populate it with uploaded consciousnesses under institutional load, you discover things about biological capacity that don't show up in the literature. The fiction made the architecture visible in ways the research alone could not.
Return to Balance is what came out the other side of all of that.
It is not a diet book. It is not a cleanse. It is not a lifestyle brand with a supplement line attached.
It is a systems-level framework for restoring the biological conditions that make every other change possible — written by someone who spent four years making sure it was actually true before asking anyone to try it.
